Things remain calm in the Los Angeles area. The UCLA Health System hospitals are continuing to function normally. The code yellow state of readiness remains in effect as a precaution. At this time, we are returning to normal staffing schedules, i.e., staff should report to and leave work as scheduled. However, I am directing that staff remain available should it be necessary to activate on-call or call-in procedures.
At this point we are assessing how UCLA may best help the victims and their families. It is gratifying to learn that staff are volunteering to donate blood through our UCLA Blood Donor Center. The Blood Center is being staffed up to accommodate this important need. If you are willing to help you may call to make an appointment at (310) 825-0888 press option 2. To assure an orderly donation process, we are asking for phone appointments in advance. Other types of volunteer and donation opportunities are also being explored.
A prayer service for the victims and their families also is being held at this noon hour in the NPH auditorium.
