SALARY:
$4249 - $5640 Lateral Candidates: Initial placement within the salary range based upon years of previous law enforcement experience and training.
Pay Increases for:
POST Certification (Intermediate $175.00/Advanced $275.00)
Specialty Assignments ($175.00 and $250.00 dependent on assignment)

MAJOR DUTIES:
Under the direction of a Sergeant, Police Officers are expected to perform regular law enforcement duties including: foot, bicycle and vehicle patrol of University of California properties (campus, medical centers, Westwood properties and nearby residential areas), investigate and prepare preliminary investigation reports, issue citations, make arrests, assist in the prosecution of violators of law, provide crime prevention information and serve as a proactive resource to a uniquely diverse community. Officers may also work as part of a security detail with civilian and other law enforcement agencies at university and athletic events. Officers have the opportunity to participate in a number of assignments such as bicycle patrol, motorcycle patrol, various training instructors, detectives, backgrounds, crime prevention, field training officer, accident investigator and various lead officer positions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 21 years old at time of appointment, possess a High School Diploma or equivalent with preference for a P.O.S.T Basic Certificate and/or college courses in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement. Possess a Valid California Drivers License. Weight proportional to height, normal hearing (15/15), at least 20/100 in each eye uncorrected, correctable to 20/30, functional color vision. Ability to pass medical and psychological examinations and extensive background investigation. Analytical and decision making skills to identify problems, weigh solutions, recognize alternatives and their implications independently and quickly. Interpersonal skills to interact with diverse public consisting of students, faculty, staff, visitors and immediate surrounding communities. Skill in speaking clearly using appropriate vocabulary to provide information and relate evidence in court and exercise authority in activities, which might involve hostility and resistance. Skill in writing descriptive reports and computer skills desirable.
