In April 2011 the UC Office of the President (UCOP) launched the Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program to support campus needs related to the budget shortfall. As a result of the success of the program, UCOP is proposing a two-year extension of ERIT with a renewal date of July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2014.

The ERIT Program enables eligible career staff (except Senior Management Group members) to voluntarily reduce their working time and corresponding pay in exchange for advantages such as vacation and sick leave accrual at the employees' pre-ERIT rates.

To date, the program has helped UCLA generate close to $1 million in savings in fiscal year 2011-12.

For departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from a minimum of one month to a maximum of 24 months. For exclusively represented employees, participation in ERIT is subject to agreement by the applicable union. Teamsters Local 2010 is in agreement with the extension of the ERIT Program for the CX (Clerical and Allied Service) Unit members.
