UCLA Retirement Workshops

Retirement planning is one of the most important processes you will undertake. We understand the impact it will have on the rest of your life, and that’s why we are committed to helping you navigate the process—smoothly.

To ensure that you will be confident, comfortable and completely satisfied with the retirement decisions you’ll be making, it is highly recommended that you read the UC Retirement Handbook prior to attending an upcoming group retirement session.

If you plan to retire on July 1, 2016, you are encouraged to attend one of the retirement classes below. Led by an experienced Campus Human Resources Benefits’ Counselor and a Health Care Facilitator, the workshops are designed to help you better understand the UC retirement process. These sessions are voluntary, at no cost to you and are in addition to, and not instead of, the final one-on-one retirement meeting with a UCLA Retirement Counselor. This meeting will help you prepare for the final meeting.

Workshops will focus on:

  • Documents you need at retirement
  • UCRP benefit payment options
  • Survivor benefits
  • Alternate monthly payment options
  • Decisions you must be prepared to make at your final retirement session with a UCLA Retirement Counselor after April 1*
  • Form filing deadline to ensure you receive your first retirement check by August 1
  • UC retiree health plan continuation
  • Medicare enrollment requirements for Medicare-eligible retirees

*This requires thoughtful discussion with your family and possibly other loved ones before your final retirement one-on-one meeting with a Retirement Counselor.

How to Enroll

Space is limited, so enroll using the UCLA LMS. At the search window, type in the name of the class you wish to enroll, or you may find the class in the course catalog. You will then be taken to the enrollment tool. When using the LMS, login in with your UCLA logon ID. When you see a confirmation message, the registration process is complete.

What to Bring to Class

For your benefit, prepare a “personal retirement estimate” by using the tool on UCnet and bring it to class.

The Retirement Estimator can be found by logging on to At Your Service Online. Under “Retirement Savings” click on “Retirement Estimator.”

The tool will provide you with the projected monthly Basic Retirement Income option. If you would like to see a projection of income for you and your Contingent Annuitant (your benefit is reduced to provide a second lifetime benefit for a Contingent Annuitant), then click on “View More Options.” You’ll be asked to provide the birthday of your Contingent Annuitant and marriage date, if applicable.

If space is available in the class you choose, a spouse or other family member may also attend.

Questions?

If you have questions regarding your retirement, please call the Campus Benefits Office at 310-794-0830 and ask to speak with a Retirement Counselor.
