Extension of the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS and ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: Two-Year Extension of the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay
We are pleased to announce that the Office of the President has approved a two-year extension of the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay, which was set to expire on June 30, 2012. The policy has been renewed from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2014.

The University of California will continue to provide reasonable assistance to UC staff members serving on active military duty in the War on Terror campaign. Under the policy, the University provides eligible employees with supplemental payments equal to the difference between the employee’s University base pay and his/her military pay and allowances until the end of an employee’s tour of active military duty, until June 30, 2014, or until the separation date of an employee’s University appointment, whichever comes first.

The University also continues to pay the UC contribution to the employee’s health plan premiums while an employee is eligible for benefits under the policy. Benefits provided under the policy are subject to a two-year lifetime limit.
Employees who are not eligible for supplemental payments because their military pay and allowances exceed their University wages may elect to continue UC health plan coverage while on military leave, and the University will continue to pay the UC contribution to those plans.

Implementation Guidelines, a Supplement to Military Pay Worksheet and Extended Military Leave Q&A's are available on the At Your Service website in Related Information.
