Guidelines for Special Equity Increases for Policy-Covered Staff (FY 07-08)

As a follow-up to the September 27, 2007, memo regarding the Salary Plan for Policy-Covered Staff for Fiscal Year 07/08, the following is additional information on the Special Equity Increase process. For your convenience, the previously issued Final Guidelines for Administration of Special Salary Equity Funding, along with the Special Equity Tracking (SET) form, are available in Related Information.

The 1% fund pool for this program is to be used for specifically identified equity issues based on criteria stated in the guidelines. In using the form, you will be asked to identify the reason for the recommended increase and to offer a brief justification.

Also, as discussed in the guidelines, Compensation Services has a variety of resources available to assist in your review. Your Compensation Consultant is available to provide this information upon request.

Once you have completed your review and the SET form, forward it to Compensation Services no later than October 31, 2007. You will be notified once the Compensation review is complete. At that time, we will advise you that the actions may be implemented into EDB. As the October 1, 2007, merit increases will not be updated to EDB until October 26, 2007, no equity changes may be implemented until after that date. Please consider post-merit salaries when reviewing for equity. Equity increases for this program will also be effective on October 1, 2007.

Although SET forms should be returned to Compensation by October 31, 2007, they will be accepted prior to that date. Equity increases for this program, along with retroactivity, will appear in paychecks on November 28, 2007, for employees on a biweekly pay schedule and on November 30, 2007, for employees on a monthly pay schedule. (This schedule does not apply to equity actions for Senior Management or others whose salaries require advance approval by The Regents, which is expected to take place at their November 14-15, 2007, meeting.)

Please contact your Compensation Consultant with any questions you may have, or for assistance with this review. You may contact Personnel Services at (310) 794-3147 for questions regarding EDB processing.
