Important Merit Processing Information

October 2005 Merits for Policy-Covered (Non-Represented) Staff

The merit increase is effective October 1, 2005, for monthly and September 25, 2005, for biweekly paid employees. Eligible employees on payroll by April 1, 2005, are eligible to receive this increase.

The merit roster contains names of employees coded in EDB for an October 2005, 2004 or 2003 merit review date. Review the data on the rosters to insure that each employee listed is eligible for a merit increase in accordance with the following information.

Employees must be below the maximum of the new salary range of their grade level and appointed to a:

  • Career appointment by April 1, 2005
    or
  • Contract appointment by April 1, 2005, provided that the written employment agreement states the employee’s eligibility for merit increases or
  • PSS limited appointment by April 1, 2005 (only limited appointments with no pre-determined end dates are eligible)

The salary grade structure has been adjusted for non-represented MSP, PSS, and ITP by 3.5% effective October 1, 2005. Range structure movement does not affect individual employee pay rates, unless the employee is below the minimum of the range after the merit has been applied. When granting merit increases, the salaries should be rounded to the nearest whole dollar.

The control figure available for merit increases is 3.5%. Funds can be transferred between programs. Therefore, savings from one program can be transferred to fund increases in another.

To assist you in the merit process, refer to the Guidelines for Administering Merit Increases, Schedule of Deadlines and Salary Events, and Merit Roster Processing Instructions.

Return your completed and signed merit rosters to Campus Human Resources no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. If you have any questions regarding the merit rosters or eligibility, call (310) 794-3147
