Management Skills Assessment Program 2006-2007

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: Management Skills Assessment Program 2006-2007

Campus Human Resources (CHR) is pleased to announce recruitment for the 2006-2007 Management Skills Assessment Program (MSAP). This highly successful program is conducted in coordination with the other UC campuses in Southern California and is designed to assess, on an individual basis, the management skills of career staff who are interested in becoming or have recently become supervisors or managers.

The program enables participants to identify managerial strengths, determine areas for improvement, learn about the range of skills necessary for effective management, and practice them in a supportive environment. Participants demonstrate management skills in role-playing exercises and work with an assigned assessor to design an individualized development plan based on the review of strengths and opportunities for improvement.

CHR is currently accepting applications for programs scheduled for October 3-6, 2006, and April 17-20, 2007, at Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. We strongly recommend department heads discuss the program with staff members who exhibit potential for management development and encourage them to apply when the timing is appropriate.

Eligibility requirements for UCLA participation include:

  • PSS Grades 2-6
  • Full-time career status with a current, satisfactory (or better) performance evaluation
  • Designation as a supervisor or manager

Six participants will be selected for each program based on an evaluation of the applicant's (1) career goals in management, (2) level of skills essential for performing management functions, and (3) prior participation in managerial, professional or career development programs.

Further information and the 2006-2007 MSAP application can be found in Related Information. Application materials may be mailed or e-mailed as an attachment. A completed Supervisor's Assessment Form (attached to the MSAP application) must be submitted, either separately or as part of the application packet. Completed applications are due by August 18, 2006.

When submitting applications, please indicate which program period is preferred. The cost is $795 (includes room and board for the four days), payable through departmental recharge or personal check to CHR.
