Management Skills Assessment Program Applications Being Accepted

DEANS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, DIRECTORS, AND EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

Re: Management Skills Assessment Program (MSAP)

Campus Human Resources (CHR) is pleased to announce that applications are available for the re-designed 2009 Management Skills Assessment Program (MSAP). Enhancements include a focus on succession management challenges facing the University, a wider use of technology integrated into the program for hands-on experience, and a three-day comprehensive session to decrease time away from work. This program, conducted in coordination with the other southern UC campuses, is designed to assess the management skills of high potential, early career supervisors, managers, and professionals for future leadership opportunities at the University.

MSAP enables participants to identify managerial strengths, determine areas for improvement, learn about the range of skills necessary for effective management, and practice them in a supportive environment. Participants work with an assigned assessor to design an individualized development plan.

CHR is currently accepting applications for the eight slots reserved for UCLA employees. The program is scheduled for October 12 -15, 2009, at Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. We strongly recommend that department heads discuss the program with supervisors, managers, and professionals who exhibit potential for management development and encourage them to apply.

Eligibility requirements for UCLA participation include:

  • PSS Grades 2-6
  • Full-time career status with a current, satisfactory (or better) performance evaluation
  • Designation as a supervisor or manager

Eight participants will be selected based on an evaluation of the applicant's (1) career goals in management, (2) level of skills essential for performing management functions, and (3) demonstrated career path in, or strong commitment to, management skill development, and (4) prior participation in managerial, professional or career development programs.

Further information and the 2009 online MSAP application form (including applicant and supervisor components) can be found in Related Information.

Completed applications must be submitted online by Friday, July 31, 2009.

The cost for the October program is $925 (includes room and board for three days and two nights), payable through departmental recharge or personal check to CHR.
