New Work-Life Benefit Available

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS & ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: New Work-Life Benefit to Become Available in 2012

In support of the University of California’s Work-Life programs for faculty and staff, and as recommended by the Systemwide Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, a new resource for emergency back-up care will be offered to eligible employees starting in January 2012.

Following systemwide review of qualified bids, Sittercity is the vendor selected to provide emergency back-up care services, including but not limited to child care and elder care. This vendor’s delivery model is an on-line self-service resource that puts the control for the search, interview, selection and payment of the caregiver in the hands of the employee.

Starting January 1, 2012, and through a special website connecting families with in-home caregivers, eligible employees will be able to activate their free UC membership to find appropriate care for their family members, using Sittercity’s nationwide network of nearly 2 million caregivers. The website includes features such as detailed profiles, background checks, references and reviews to help make the process safe and easy. The website is located at: www.sittercity.com/universityofcalifornia. However, you will not be able to activate your membership until January 1, 2012.

Participation in the program is voluntary. Hourly rates for care are determined by the caregiver and payment is between the care seeker and the caregiver. For represented employees, the new benefit is subject to the requirements of the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA).

Detailed information about the new program will be included in Benefits Open Enrollment materials to be distributed next month. Please share this good news with faculty and staff in your organization.
