Nominations for 2006 UC Leadership Institute

Re: UC Leadership Institute (UCLI) – Call for Nominations

Campus Human Resources is pleased to issue a call for nominations for the 2006 UC Leadership
Institute–Navigating UC’s Strategic Course (UCLI), a systemwide conference scheduled for October 15, 16 and 17, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine. The program is intended for mid- to upper-level managers who have other supervisors reporting to them or who have major programmatic responsibilities. It is designed to help equip UC managers with the skills, knowledge and professional networks they need to be effective managers and leaders at UC today and in the future.

UCLI program goals are to develop leaders who will:

  • Discover ways to integrate and communicate UC’s strategic goals into their daily work
  • Learn to build, sustain and manage a workplace that best supports diversity and ethical decision-making
  • Create networks for information, support, advice and practical assistance

The program will include keynote speakers and general sessions on topics such as UC’s strategic goals, key systemwide initiatives, styles of leadership and leadership effectiveness.

Who Should Apply

Managers who supervise supervisors or who have major programmatic responsibilities on the UCLA campus are encouraged to apply.

Program Costs

There is a $350 registration fee to be paid by each participant’s department or sponsoring organization. We encourage schools and divisions to cover costs centrally if possible. The registration fee covers the cost of the program and meals (except dinner on Monday evening). Participants are also responsible for their own travel and hotel costs (the hotel is offering a reduced rate of $129 per night).

Host Hotel

Once approved for participation, applicants will be given information on how to reserve a room at the Irvine Hyatt Regency Hotel. The hotel has reserved rooms for UCLI participants for Sunday and Monday nights but will not accept reservations for those nights unless the individual’s name appears on the confirmed list of UCLI participants submitted by UCLA’s UCLI coordinator. A complimentary hotel shuttle is available at the Irvine airport.

Web Registration and Information

The UCLI website provides information about the program, including the draft agenda and speaker bios. Selected participants will be given a Username and Password needed to complete the registration form.

Applications and nominations for UCLA managers who are interested in attending UCLI in October 2006 should be sent to Robert Gibson at no later than September 14. Please include the following information:

  • Nominee’s name

  • Department
  • Number of People Nominee Manages
