PPSM 84: Accommodations for Nursing Mothers

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS & ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: UC Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) 84: Accommodations for Nursing Mothers

As part of the University of California’s commitment to a workplace culture supportive of family care-giving responsibilities, and in recognition of the importance and benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and their infants, an updated policy entitled “Accommodations for Nursing Mothers” has been issued as Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) 84.

Under the provisions of PPSM 84, and in compliance with State and federal law, the University will provide:

  • Appropriate sanitary and private space for lactation purposes, in close proximity to the nursing mother’s work area.
  • A reasonable amount of break time to accommodate the needs of nursing mothers.

To view the policy online, go to Related Information. As an adjunct to the new policy, please refer to UCLA’s Lactation Accommodation Procedures.

Please distribute this information to managers and supervisors in your organization. If you have any questions about PPSM 84 or UCLA’s lactation procedures, please direct them to Lazetta Smith at lazetta@chr.ucla.edu or Kety Duron at kduron@mednet.ucla.edu.
