UC Nondiscrimination & Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic & Staff Employment

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS & ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: Approval of Revised UC Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic and Staff Employment

Recently, the University of California revised the Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic and Staff Employment. The changes are technical in nature and bring the policy in compliance with California Assembly Bill 887, Chapter 719, which clarifies that discrimination, on the basis of gender and gender identity, is prohibited.

A technical change was also made to the definition of “Service in the Uniformed Services,” consistent with the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act of 1994 and California’s Military and Veterans Code, Section 394. The policy can be viewed in its entirety by clicking on the link in Related Information.

The text of the systemwide policy has been placed within a new policy template, which includes sections on definitions, compliance/responsibilities, and revision history. These changes were previously incorporated within PPSM 12: Nondiscrimination in Employment and APM 035: Affirmative Action and Nondiscrimination in Employment.
The revised policies are effective immediately and are also available in Related Information.
