UCLA Procedure 46 (Administrative Leave) – Blood Donations

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: UCLA Procedure 46 (Administrative Leave) – Blood Donations

We are writing to inform you that revisions to UCLA Procedure 46 (Administrative Leave) have been finalized and now can be implemented. The changes to the procedure allow for greater blood donor participation, specifically for double red cell donations.

UCLA Procedure 46 includes the following provisions:

  • Donors can give two units of blood at a single donation if they are eligible for double red cell donations. To be eligible, certain criteria, e.g. higher weight and hemoglobin requirements, are required.
  • By participating in double red cell donations, donors can earn the equivalent administrative leave for two (2) donations at one time.
  • The total number of paid leave hours an employee can earn in one year remains the same.

We encourage you to share this information with employees in your organization. If you have any questions regarding this procedure, please contact Manager Lazetta Smith in Campus Human Resources at lazetta@chr.ucla.edu or Director Maure Gardner in Health System Human Resources at mgardner@mednet.ucla.edu.

Sincerely,
