Re: Proposed Staff Policy 84 – Accommodations for Nursing Mothers

As part of the University of California’s commitment to support family care-giving responsibilities, the University proposes to establish Staff Policy 84 Accommodations for Nursing Mothers.

Under the provisions of Staff Policy 84, and in accordance with mandated state and federal laws, the University will provide:

  • Appropriate sanitary and private space for lactation purposes, ideally in close proximity to the nursing mother’s work area
  • A reasonable amount of time for lactation breaks

The proposed policy is available in Related Information. The policy’s scope includes all professional and support staff, managers and senior professionals, and Senior Management Group members.

As this is a formal review, employees are encouraged to comment on the proposed policy. Comments from the campus should be sent to Lazetta Smith in Campus Human Resources at and Health System employees should send them to Maure Gardner, Health System Human Resources, at by February 22, 2013.
