Renewal of the Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program

The Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program has been renewed for an additional two-year period, from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2014. The ERIT Program has helped UCLA generate close to $1 million in savings in fiscal year 2011-12.

Under the program, eligible staff employees may voluntarily reduce their time and corresponding pay in exchange for certain advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at the employees' pre-ERIT rates. Career staff employees, except Senior Management Group members, are eligible to participate in the ERIT Program. Please note: UPTE and CUE have reached agreements with the University concerning the renewal of ERIT for all of their bargaining-unit members.

Departments have the option of implementing or not implementing ERIT. In departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head’s approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from a minimum of one month to a maximum of 24 months.

An ERIT contract, UBEN 280, must be signed by both the ERIT participant and the department head to initiate an ERIT contract. Please send completed ERIT Contracts and Contract Amendment Forms to Personnel Services in Campus Human Resources.

More information about the program, including an ERIT Contract/Contract Amendment Form and Frequently Asked Questions, is available on the At Your Service website in Related Information.

If you have any questions about ERIT or the approved extension of the program, contact Lazetta Smith in Campus Human Resources at (310) 794-0877 or at lazetta@chr.ucla.edu.
