Wage Increases for AFSCME Service Unit Represented Employees

Pursuant to the agreement between the University of California and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), UCLA will be implementing the following salary actions for Service Unit (SX) employees effective July 1, 2009, for monthly paid employees and July 12, 2009, for biweekly paid employees. Eligible employees are those members of the bargaining unit on active status or on an approved leave on the effective date of the increase and who remain on payroll when the payment is calculated. All changes will be made centrally except where it is otherwise stated.

Range Adjustments:

  • All SX ranges and per diem rates will be increased by 1%. Consistent with this range movement, unit employees will receive a 1% salary increase. Rates may vary slightly due to rounding.
  • The rate for any employee earning less than $12.00/hour after the 1% range movement must be adjusted to $12.00/hour, the new minimum rate for all SX titles.
  • Those employees at or near the new range maximum will receive an increase to the new range maximum and will receive the remainder of the increase in a one-time annualized retirement eligible lump sum payment. Those employees whose current salaries exceed the new range maximum will receive a 1% one-time annualized retirement eligible lump sum payment. A list will be provided to all departments who have such employees and the lump sum payment must be processed by department PTR preparers by July 30, 2009, for biweekly paid employees and July 24, 2009, for monthly paid employees using the DOS code LSP.
  • Adjustments to RES appointments must be done at the department level.

EDB will reflect the new rates on July 7, 2009. The IPAY screens for biweekly paid employees will be available for view on July 31, 2009, and for monthly paid employees on July 27, 2009. The new rates and lump sum payments for biweekly paid employees will appear on the August 5, 2009, paycheck and for monthly paid employees on the July 31, 2009, paycheck.
