Wage Increases to Lower-Wage AFSCME Represented Employees

As part of ongoing efforts to provide competitive total compensation for all University employees, and in agreement with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), UCLA will be implementing the following wage increases effective March 25, 2007, for biweekly paid employees and April 1, 2007, for monthly paid employees in the Service (SX) Unit unless otherwise stated. Eligible employees are those on active statuses or on an approved leave at the time of the agreement and on the date of payout. All changes will be made centrally except where it is otherwise stated.

Custodians Wages and Range Adjustment:

  • Employees in Custodian, Senior Custodian Senior Custodian – Per Diem and Lead Custodian Titles (Title Codes 5116, 5117, 5099 and 5113) will receive an increase of 50 cents per hour. 
  • Ranges for these classifications will also increase by 50 cents per hour.
     

Non-Custodian Actions:

   Wages:

  • Employees earning less than the full time equivalent annualized salary of $30,000 per year will receive a 2% salary increase.
  • Employees earning the full time equivalent annualized salary of $30,000 or more but less than the full time equivalent annualized salary of $35,000 per year will receive a 1% salary increase.
  • Employees earning the full time equivalent annualized salary of $35,000 or more but less than the full time equivalent annualized salary of $40,000 per year will receive a 0.5% salary increase.

Range Adjustments:

  • Ranges for specific titles, for which at least one incumbent in the title received an increase in accordance with the above, will be increased by 2%. A list of these titles, along with their new rates, is in Related Information.
  • Employees who fall below the minimum of the new salary range after receiving the above increase, and after the range has been increased, will be brought to the minimum of the new range. A list will be provided to all departments who have such employees and these changes must to be made by department EDB preparers on Friday, August 31.

Title Specific Range Adjustments:

  • The salary ranges for the Groundskeeper titles (Lead Groundskeeper 8132, Groundskeeper 8133, Grounds Equipment Operator 8134, and Groundskeeper Per Diem 8144) will move an additional 6.8% - 7.8% effective April 1, 2007, for monthly paid employees and March 25, 2007, for biweekly paid employees.
  • The salary ranges for the Auto Technician titles (Lead Automotive Technician 8472, Automotive Technician 8473, and Assistant Automotive Technician 8474) will move an additional 17.5% - 22.6% effective July 1, 2007, for both monthly and biweekly paid employees.
  • Employees who fall below the minimum of these new salary ranges after receiving the lower wage-worker increase and the 2% range adjustment must be brought to the minimum of the new range. A list will be provided to all departments who have such employees (approximately 60) and these changes must to be made by department EDB preparers on Friday, August 31, 2007.

The IPAY screens for biweekly paid employees will be available for view on September 19, 2007, and for monthly paid employees on September 25, 2007. The new rates and retroactive pay for biweekly paid employees will appear on the September 19, 2007, paycheck and for monthly paid employees on the October 1, 2007, paycheck.

Information regarding the October 1, 2007, across-the-board increases for SX employees will be available soon.
