Court Issuance of Restraining Order Against AFSCME Strike

University of California officials announced today that the Superior Court of San Francisco has issued a restraining order against the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union prohibiting its announced strike at UC facilities throughout the state scheduled for July 14-18. The temporary restraining order is available in Related Information.

The court order prohibits any strike by patient care technical and service unit employees. All employees are expected to report to work as scheduled next week. Staff who do not report to work and are not authorized to be absent may be subject to disciplinary action.

Although AFSCME may be advising employees that it is still legal to strike, this court order makes any strike illegal. If AFSCME violates the court order, it could be subject to civil or criminal penalties.

The University has been in negotiations with AFSCME for many months and believes our proposals are fair, reward our employees’ dedication and excellent work, and are responsive to many of AFSCME’s expressed concerns.
