2008-09 Management Seminar Series

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Campus Human Resources (CHR) invites all academic and administrative leaders, including interested faculty, managers, and senior professional staff, to participate in the 2008-09 Management Seminar Series, our continuing partnership with the Anderson School’s Executive Education Program. Our spotlight this year is on leading change and how those in leadership roles can more effectively help others move forward. Leading change at UCLA is a critical part of the role you play, and this series is designed to explore new tools, approaches, and workplace trends to enhance managerial success and employee alignment with new directions.

Our 2008-09 program is called Leading Change. It is designed to enhance self-awareness of leadership strengths, learn compelling tools for persuasive communication to align staff and peers, embrace healthy and constructive ways of managing conflict in dynamic environments, and learn the value of honest and candid workplace conversations.

Quarterly sessions are offered on these topics:

  • Leading Change: A Style Assessment with The Birkman Method, Kelly Bean
    October 29, 2008
  • Persuasive Communication, Lisa Barron
    December 10, 2008
  • Managing Conflict, Bernardo Ferdman
    March 4, 2009
  • Straight-Talk at Work, Sam Culbert
    May 27, 2009

A program brochure with details about each topic, faculty presenters, fees, dates, time, and location is being distributed via campus mail. Package enrollments enjoy priority, since space is limited. Departments may reserve a package and designate in advance different participants for selected seminars. We request that everyone who plans to attend any session complete the Birkman assessment, since this tool will be referenced throughout the year. The fee for a complete Seminar Series Package is $475, and $150 for individual seminars. (There is no additional charge for the assessment tool.)

We appreciate your ongoing support of CHR Training and Development efforts to enhance leadership preparation. Contact Marisa McCarthy (marisa@chr.ucla.edu) for enrollment assistance and Robert Gibson (rgibson@chr.ucla.edu) for program information. If you do not receive a brochure by September 8, contact Marisa to get one. Please join us at the 2008-09 Management Seminar Series.

You may enroll online via our SkillNet system in Related Information.

Sincerely,

Lubbe Levin
