2009 Summer Youth Jobs Program

Beginning July 6, 2009, UCLA will participate in the “HIRE LA’s Youth 2009 Summer Jobs Program,” which helps young adults learn about career options. UCLA has been involved with the program for several years and has helped hundreds of youth gain exposure to the campus during the summer months. This year, the program has been enhanced with funds from the federal stimulus package.

Under the sponsorship of the UCLA Community Based Learning Program (CBL), and with campus partners that include Government & Community Relations (GCR), Campus Human Resources (CHR), Health System Human Resources and the UCLA Career Center, the program will provide job placement on campus to more than 200 young adults this summer.

The program kicks off on July 6, 2009, and runs through August 14, 2009. An additional week of work may be added. Qualified youth, who are between the ages of 14 and 24 are expected to work five hours per day. UCLA supervisors who plan to participate in the program will attend an Orientation meeting. There is no cost to UCLA departments who participate in the program.

If you would like to provide UCLA work experience for a young person this summer, fill out the Work Order Request Form in Related Information and return it to Pam Schachter at pschachter@oid.ucla.edu. If you prefer to fax the form, send it to  (310) 206-1455  or via campus mail to: Community Based Learning Program, 405 Hilgard Ave., 70 Powell, Mail Code: 163504. The deadline for submissions is June 19, 2009.
