Implementation of the Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program

The Office of the President has issued guidelines for implementation of a new one year Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program, effective July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012. The program enables eligible career staff (except Senior Management Group members) to voluntarily reduce their working time and corresponding pay in exchange for advantages such as vacation and sick leave accrual at the employees' pre-ERIT rates. The reduction in time and pay will help us achieve temporary salary savings during this period of budgetary shortfall.

For departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from a minimum of one month to a maximum of 12 months. For exclusively represented employees, participation in ERIT is subject to agreement by the applicable union. UC and CUE have reached an agreement to allow CX bargaining unit members to participate in the ERIT Program. Also, AFSCME and UPTE have agreed to allow their bargaining unit employees to participate in ERIT.

ERIT Program provisions and Frequently Asked Questions, along with the Contract/Contract Amendment form are available on the At Your Service website.

For questions from campus departments or staff regarding the ERIT Program, contact Lazetta Smith at extension x4-0877. Although the UCLA Health System as a whole does not plan to participate in this program, Maure Gardner may be contacted at extension 4-0523 for consideration of requests on a case-by-case basis.
