Proposed Revision of UC Policy on Supplement to Military Pay
The University is proposing a four-year extension of the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay, which is set to expire on June 30, 2014. It is the University’s desire to assist, to the extent possible, employees who are called to active military duty during this campaign. The proposed renewal date for the policy is July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2018.
The following proposed changes have been incorporated into the policy:
- The “War on Terror” campaign is now known as the “Overseas Contingency Operations” campaign.
- Policy links have been updated for access to documents and information.
Under the proposed policy, the University provides eligible employees with supplemental payments equal to the difference between their University base pay and their military pay and allowances until the end of an employee’s tour of active military duty, until June 30, 2018, or until the separation date of an employee’s University appointment, whichever comes first. The University also continues to pay the UC contribution to the employee’s health plan premiums while an employee is eligible for benefits under the policy. Benefits provided under the policy are subject to a two-year lifetime limit.
Eligible employees under the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay are those who serve on active military duty during the Overseas Contingency Operations campaign.
Employees who are not eligible for supplemental payments because their military pay and allowances exceed their University wages may elect to continue UC health plan coverage while on military leave, and the University will continue to pay the UC contribution to those plans.
The proposed policy is posted in Related Information. Inasmuch as this is a formal policy review, comments from employees are encouraged and should be submitted by May 30, 2014. Comments from campus employees may be sent to Lazetta Smith in Campus Human Resources at firstname.lastname@example.org and from Health System employees to Maure Gardner, Health System Human Resources, at email@example.com.
