Re: Tentative Agreement with Lecturers on New Contract

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to inform you that the University of California and the UC-AFT, which represents the Unit 18 Lecturers’ bargaining unit, have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. Over the next several weeks, Unit 18 Lecturers at each campus will vote on whether to ratify the contract.

The tentative agreement includes the following:

  • Duration: the parties tentatively agree to a four (4) year contract through January 31, 2020.
  • Wages: bargaining unit members will receive an 11.2% increase during the first three (3) years of the agreement. In addition, during fiscal year 2019–2020 these lecturers would receive the same increase given to non-represented academic employees.
  • Retirement Benefits: Unit 18 Lecturers who are hired on or after July 1, 2016, will have the same retirement benefits as Senate Faculty.

In addition, UCLA and UC-AFT tentatively agree to form a committee to review the non-reappointment of Unit 18 Lecturers with less than six (6) years of service in certain departments.

Please share this information with members of your department as appropriate.
