Employee Reduction in Time Program
Upon approval, ERIT allows eligible career staff (excluding Senior Management Group members) to voluntarily reduce their current appointment percentage and corresponding pay. In exchange, employees receive certain advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at the employees’ pre-ERIT accrual rates.
For departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time from 5 – 50% of full-time for a minimum of one month to a maximum of 36 months. Exclusively represented employees are eligible for ERIT if their applicable union has agreed to participate in the program.
The following unions currently allow member participation in ERIT: AFSCME, Teamsters, UAPD, and UPTE.
