Dear Colleagues:

The University of California (UC) is proposing an interim policy on "Responding to Immigration Enforcement Issues Involving Patients in UC Health Facilities (DOC)." The policy applies to health facilities as defined in California Health and Safety Code section 1250, clinics as defined in California Health and Safety Code sections 1200 and 1200.1, and substance abuse treatment facilities operated by the University.

The University’s medical centers treat all patients who require its services without regard to race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship or other protected characteristics. In keeping with the mission of the University of California, UC recognizes and understands that its ability to fulfill its public health responsibilities depends on the ability of patients to trust their providers. UC medical centers remain committed to these responsibilities and will vigorously enforce University nondiscrimination and privacy policies and standards of professional conduct.
