Professional Development Program Nominations (2006-07)

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS and ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Re: Professional Development Program Nominations (2006-07)

I am writing to request nominations for participation in our annual Professional Development Program and encourage you to consider this valuable opportunity designed to prepare UCLA's staff leaders and managers for the future. As you know, the University faces many challenges. As we plan for the future, it is important to build management competencies and develop strategies to transfer institutional knowledge within our workforce.

The Professional Development Program (PDP), offered each fiscal year through UCLA Campus Human Resources, Training and Development, is a career development program, currently in its 11th year. PDP assists the University in the development and retention of a highly skilled, diverse and motivated professional staff. The program supports the advancement of a diverse workforce into leadership positions and has a demonstrated record in enhancing skills, strengthening institutional loyalty and broadening participants' knowledge of University affairs.

The program features several components, including advanced skills training, mentoring, networking and career assessment. Participants work with department sponsors on special projects of importance to UCLA, enabling them to demonstrate professional skills to campus leaders. Participation requires departmental endorsement and participant commitment.

I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity for staff at PSS grades 2 through 6 and equivalent Programmer/Analyst levels to participate in this unique experience. For more information about the program and a 2006-07 application, see Related Information, or contact the Program Coordinator, Marsha Coutin, at extension 4-0853, or via e-mail at Marsha@chr.ucla.edu.

Please join us in this opportunity to develop the staff leaders of the future.

Sincerely,

Lubbe Levin
Assistant Vice Chancellor
