FY 2013-14 Salary Plan for Policy-Covered Employees
I am pleased to inform you that the University will be implementing system-wide salary increases for the 2013-14 fiscal year. Effective July 1, 2013, faculty and other non-represented academic personnel will receive a 2 percent general salary increase, and non-represented staff employees will receive salary increases of 3 percent on average (individual increases may vary), subject to the exclusions noted below. Increases for staff on bi-weekly pay schedules will be effective on the first bi-weekly pay date after July 1st.
These increases, which were part of the proposed FY 2013-14 budget approved by the Board of Regents this past November, are intended to acknowledge the fact that non-represented employees have received only one general salary increase in the past five years. The increases also are intended to partially offset increased retirement and benefit costs that faculty and staff have absorbed over the past few years.
The following employee groups are excluded from the FY 2013-14 salary plan:
- Top-level Senior Management Group members, including the president, chancellors, executive and senior vice presidents and other senior managers who report directly to the president; medical center chief executive officers; direct reports to the Regents; certain other senior managers; and athletic coaches whose salaries are covered by multi-year contracts.
- Any staff members who have received promotional or equity increases exceeding 3 percent in the past 12 months, except that the Chancellor may grant exceptions based upon recommendations made by the cognizant Dean, Vice Chancellor, or Vice Provost.
- Exclusively represented, bargaining-unit employees, whose salaries are determined in accordance with applicable collective-bargaining agreements.
The budget cuts of the last several years have created many challenges—and sacrifices—for faculty and staff, and I want to thank you for your continued dedication, service and contributions to the University.
Guidelines will be issued soon by the Academic Personnel Office and by Campus Human Resources/Healthcare Human Resources for their respective areas of responsibility.
Scott L. Waugh
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
