2023-24 Management Development Certificate Schedule

Campus Human Resources is pleased to announce the 2023-2024 Management Development Certificate Course Schedule.

The certificate program is designed to help management-level UCLA employees enhance effectiveness in their current roles and prepare for future leadership opportunities. The Management Development Certificate supports UCLA’s workforce planning objectives, enhances retention of high-potential professionals, and positions managers for success.  In addition to learning management theory, participants work with peers, team members, their own managers, and other colleagues on application of new skills to real-world scenarios.

Managers in roles classified at the following levels (including equivalent IT and academic classifications) are eligible to enroll:

  • Career Tracks: MGR1 through MGR4
  • Career Tracks: Professional 4 and 5
  • MSP – all levels
  • PSS-5 through PSS-7

Supervisors who are not classified at the levels above but who have attained the Supervisory Leadership Principles Certificate – Enhanced and the Supervisory HR Principles Certificate are also eligible to enroll.

Individual courses may be taken without pursuing a certificate.  The Management Development Certificate is earned by successful completion of 10 courses – six required and four electives. Courses may be completed in any order.

Several of the courses are delivered live and the remainder are self-paced.  The live courses in the series are highly participative – attendees interact with the facilitator and each other in discussions and activities in large-group and small-group/breakout settings.  The self-paced courses in the series leverage e-learning and other online content as well as interaction with team members, the participant’s own supervisor, and other colleagues in order to complete the coursework.

Also available is the Enhanced Management Development Certificate which is earned by successful completion of the Management Development Certificate plus seven additional electives.

Registration for the courses is conducted via the UC Learning Center. Instructor-led workshops will primarily be held online, and early registration is encouraged.
