Take advantage of skill building and professional development opportunities. The following are highlights of upcoming workshops. We look forward to seeing you in class!

Communication

Email Etiquette: Using Email Effectively – Hone your writing skills via email. This class addresses the common challenges with email at work and provides guidelines for how to communicate using email at UCLA. Learn how to craft concise, descriptive, and effective messages that make appropriate use of subject headings, signature files, salutations, and closings. This class is scheduled for September 19.

Business and Operations

Equipment Custodian Training – This class is designed for individuals responsible for maintaining their department’s inventorial equipment. Equipment Management staff will help define inventorial equipment, provide an overview of custodial responsibilities and discuss online reports available to help equipment custodians review and manage their equipment. This class will be offered on September 27.

Supervision, Management and Leadership 

Delegation Skills for Supervisors – Develop essential delegation skills needed for workplace success. Learn about managerial styles, and how to identify and overcome delegation barriers. This class will be held September 29.

Job Descriptions: Learn How to Make the Job Description Work for You – Learn how to create effective job descriptions that will enable you to recruit, develop and retain outstanding staff. This course addresses legal considerations in the development of job descriptions and provides hands-on experience. Participants must be designated as supervisors in the Employee Database system to be eligible to take the course. This class will be held September 29.
